Duomo - the Cathedral and its Terraces
One of the symbols of the city, the Cathedral, with its Madonnina and 135 spires up to 17 metres tall, is a must-see for all visitors to Milan.
Work began on the Cathedral in 1386 and continued for five centuries, during which time it underwent innumerable changes. Today, it is the biggest and most complex Gothic building in Italy.
The windows of the Cathedral are lit from the inside and the sacred images represented can be seen from the outside also at night. A nail is conserved in the Dome above the apse, which is said to come from the cross on which Jesus was crucified.
The panorama that can be enjoyed from the Terraces, which can also be reached by lift, is quite spectacular.
